Nuremberg

Nuremberg, Nürnberg in German,  is a city on the river Pegnitz and the Rhine-Main-Danube Canal in the German state of Bavaria, in the administrative region of Middle Franconia.

Last month I had the urge to get out of Prague the weekend after my birthday. I wanted to go somewhere new and just to enjoy a weekend with my boyfriend. Back then I didn't know what kind of adventure (in a negative way) this would turn out to be - but first things first.

I wanted to go to Nuremberg already before Christmas to go see the famous Christmas-market, but somehow I didn't manage to go. So my birthday seemed like a good time to go.

On Friday we took off from Prague and drove by car - luckily Nuremberg isn't that far away, around 2,5-3 hours, so no hurry was needed in the morning. Even though we took off around 11 o'clock from home we managed to arrive to Nuremberg at 13:30. This gave us plenty of time and I came up with the idea, that we could actually go to the zoo before going to our hotel in the city center.

Let me be honest here - parking at the zoo - a b s o l u t e l y a m a z i n g ! So much space and just 3 minutes walk from the entrance. Another absolutely amazing thing was that we went there on Friday, so there weren't that many people and we were able to buy our tickets without waiting, seeing the Dolphin show from the first row or for example to see this gorgeous baby rhino - that completely made my day. Please excuse the quality of the photo... I forgot my camera in the car.

Look at this beauty?!
Anyways, if you have a stop in Nuremberg - go see the zoo. It's absolutely beautiful, situated in a forest but ... a little up a hill. Still worth it though. The only thing that I have to mention is that be sure to bring your drinks or at least buy a bottle of water by the entrance - because all of the sudden you will be in the back part of the zoo and there are only 4 shops with drinks in the entire garden.

Next stop: check in at the hotel!

Thank god for Waze, magical gps app, which got us to the hotel safe and sound. But then the trouble started. Not real trouble, but some unpleasant events. Firstly, we had to park at the hotel garage - which went good in the beginning, but ended up spending like 20 minutes parking and almost scratching my baby - not the boyfriend, who cares about him? But we survived all good and so did all the cars in that super small parking lot.

We finally got into our room, only took the necessities and went out to explore the afternoon beauty of Nuremberg. But oh the surprise when I took out my camera and found out that I left my SD card at home, because I had been exporting photos the night before. In the anger and frustration I pulled my backpack and wanted to put my camera away - because, well, it wouldn't be any use. And then my camera falls and the sunscreen breaks. Hooray.

So here is a bunch of photos from my phone, because not having a camera is not going to stop me.

Here I marked an amazing café by the castle in Nuremberg. It is absolutely amazing, you can either sit inside or take it outside and enjoy the atmosphere of this medieval city. The barista is really friendly and will recommend everything what is good - and believe me, listen to him - it will be good! Also, my boyfriend forgot our bag with my outdoor camera - which we first figured three hours later - rushed back and luckily the man at the bar had kept an eye on it. Thank you once again!

Also, please excuse I didn't take a photo of what we ordered - I am still new to all this blogging thing.

If you like art, don't miss out on Albrecht Dürer, who is as Nurembergian (is that even a word?) as it gets, his house is located just below the castle.

That is all I got for today,

J.
